BioData.pt Delivers Intro to DMPs with ELIXIR Cyprus

Introduction to Data Management Plans

The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) organized an introductory course on best practices in Research Data Management (RDM) which took place online on February 17, 2023. The course was provided in collaboration with BioData.pt | ELIXIR Portugal and was designed to disseminate best practices in Data Management and teach the basics of creating and using Data Management Plans (DMP) in the context of research activities. The full-day event featured two introductory lectures on Research Data Management and Data Management Plans, followed by a hands-on DMP exercise where participants formed groups to complete a DMP for a mock research project. Twenty trainees attended the introductory lectures, ten of whom successfully completed the participatory exercise.

We share the testimony of one of the course participants, Anastasios Oulas: “Data management Plans (DMPs) are now a prerequisite for submitting grants in all major European and US funding bodies. The ELIXIR-CY-PT Research Data Management Course provided the Cypriot community (in academia and well as industry) with valuable introductory knowledge on the general concept behind DMPs. In addition, hands-on training was performed that allowed participants to put newly gained knowledge in effect in order to generate a successful DMP”.

The course was supported by the EU-funded project ELIXIR-CONVERGE which aims to standardize life science research data management (RDM) across Europe, as well as from the “Impact evaluation at Node-level - getting it done” Commissioned service from ELIXIR.
