Riding the next wave of research data!

Riding the Next Wave of Research Data

Last Monday, in an auditorium full of attendees (virtual and in-person) and international speakers, Mário Gaspar da Silva, our Vice-President and Head of Node, shared the stage with Patrícia Calado, from AICIB, presenting the path “Towards a Portuguese COVID-19 data portal”. Later that afternoon, Ana Portugal Melo, our Executive Director and Deputy Head of Node, introduced “The Portuguese experience in enabling interoperability frameworks for scientific data” with  Ready for BioData Management?, a capacity building programme in data management for life sciences that aims to disseminate FAIR principles around researchers and scientific institutions at national level.

The presentations were part of the Session 2: Scientific data exchange in public health emergencies: what we learned from the COVID-19 outbreak and Session 3: Challenges towards a more inclusive interoperability framework for scientific data of the workshop Riding the Next Wave of Research Data, where COVID-19 pandemic was held as reference. Important lessons from this global crisis, such as the urgency of achieving data interoperability across different settings and countries in this kind of circumstances, were discussed.

The workshop was hosted by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), on behalf of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union, together with the European Commission and the Portuguese Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation (AICIB) and took place at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC).

BioData.pt is, once again, proving to be a reference in the fields of data interoperability and FAIR data sharing!
